Dan and Paula own Elements for Life a unique Chocolate lovers experience, here Dan tells us about how a love of chocolate grew into a successful business – why not pop over after reading and treat yourself to one of their yummy chocolate making kits to try it for yourself!?
Q. How did you first get involved in your career and why?
A. Paula and I had been enjoying raw chocolate for a year or so and she wanted to start making her own. Despite looking she didn’t find a kit that had everything she needed, so last October she said to me we should make a kit. I said yes without much thinking and the rest is history, as they say!
Q. What is the most challenging thing about your work?
A. Being a new small business our 2 biggest issues are cashflow and time. If we had more cash I could pay for more things to be done by others, giving me more time to develop sales and products, which would of course improve cashflow.
Q. Can you tell us about any interesting people you’ve met through your work?
A. We meet interesting people all the time, but that’s because everyone is interesting, in their own special way. Sometimes it’s harder to see in some folks, but everyone is special.
Q. What do you do when you aren’t working?
A. Get out for walks and bike rides in the country, eat good food and have fun
Q. What is your most favourite thing about your work?
A. One of our big pleasures in what we do, is seeing the look on someone’s face when they try one of our raw chocolate goodies for the first time. It really does make things worthwhile seeing the joy and delight
Q. And the least?
A. Book work, paper work and going out getting new outlets onboard
Q. If you hadn’t chosen this career what would you like to do?
A. I didn’t choose this one really, it chose us!
Q. What tips would you give to someone looking to get into your career?
A. Follow your dreams and your heart. Be honest about what you want from your career. Above all make sure it’s something you love to do!
Q. Is there anything else you would like to share about your career choice that you haven’t already mentioned?
A. My life is a whirlwind of raw chocolate silliness and while I have a direction that we’re moving in, every day throws up surprises and challenges. Seize them, make them your own and you won’t go far wrong
The Fun Questions
Q. What did you have for breakfast?
A. A freshly made superfood smoothie, which of course included raw cacao
Q. Who would win a fight between pirates and ninjas?
Q. If you were a tree what tree would you be?
A. Hmm, either an old English Oak or a Yew Tree
Q. What is the last book you read?
A. I’m half way through “The E-Myth Revisited” by Michael Gerber which I’m enjoying a lot and is giving me an interesting new perspective on how the business is unfolding
Q. What is your favourite song at the moment?
A. I don’t listen to mainstream music and I couldn’t honestly single one out and even if I did, no-one would know it.
Q. Which of my blog posts is your favourite and why?
A. Couldn’t pick just one!
